Canadian, Ontario and Swiss flags were raised in a ceremony at Fryfogel Tavern on Saturday, August 17, 2013, that paid tribute to Swiss immigrant Sebastian Fryfogel and longstanding ties between Canada and Switzerland.

The Canadian flag was raised by Gary Schellenberger, MP for Perth Wellington, the Ontario flag by Randy Pettapiece, MPP for Perth Wellington and the Swiss flag by Walter Burkhardt, president of the Swiss Club of Thames Valley. The flags fluttered proudly from stainless steel poles erected on the tavern green west of the Fryfogel cairn.

Those on hand sang O’Canada as the Canadian flag began its ascent, and applauded each flag in turn as it rose.

Gary Schellenberger, Randy Pettapiece and Walter Burkhardt spoke briefly, as did Roger Hilderley, then Chair of the Foundation, and Reg White, Chair of the Foundation’s Arboretum Committee.
